For years before my foray into art sales in 2006, I deemed myself to be a professional artist. I lacked employment experience in the field of art, though I did do some freelance work on the Internet. I briefly worked for a cartoon company, but my idea of what jobs for artists were did not match with what I was experiencing. I searched the Internet for jobs for artists and came across a propsect that would allow me to email photos and artwork, so I took advantage of the opportunity.
My work day currently has me performing merely a couple hours of work, and enjoying a remarkable amount of money! Of course work gets under your skin and grates on your nerves, but my art job generates profit for me. Subsequent to 2006, I experienced steady revenue. It was all going quite well, until 2007 when I started farming our the work. I was doing it all – the art, the advertising, the distributing – but you are limited because you can’t do all of it yourself . . . or can you?
I thought about it and came up with a simple solution: do all the art you can beforehand, then upload them to as many sites as you can. Without this streamlined distribution method, the paychecks are just . . . smaller. As with anything, you can’t predict how much profit you will make, but once you realize that by working smart and doing it all ahead of time, you won’t have to work hard later.
Once it hits the Internet, the art is its own sales advertisement. On average, I receive $3.00 from every piece of art downloaded. Let me repeat: one piece of art sold is $3.00 in my pocket! And let’s not forget the thousands of photos of mine out there at a quarter for each download to go along with those hundreds of downloaded art pieces. At a quarter a piece, I could just buy an arcade! But, there is no maintenance required with this venue.
I register the rights to each piece, so if the original piece is ever bought and the exclusive rights transferred, I can quickly remove the online copies. And, of course, there are little hints to show you how to make more profit. Here’s the good stuff: you can earn more money by advertising yourself! Of course, this is not an absolute necessity, if you’re not comfortable with the idea, but you can certainly generate more income by doing it.
It’s something that I do and have had great success with. In the past year, I have created 3500 photos and 35 paintings, submitted them to 240 sites, and am sitting back reaping the profits. My work averages 1200 downloads every day. Most of the downloads are in the quarter per download department, but some of the downloads are upwards of $5.00 per download. The income has really jumped since I’ve been advertising myself on these sites. Excellent information!
